- Trade off From SimpleBits about Eric Myers' post:
"Telling me that I've made the wrong choice will not change anything, because there are almost no objectively wrong choices in this area. There are only tradeoffs."
This is something that I enjoyed reading this morning. I really think this is one of the best things about web design. There are no hard rules. It's still art.

You are Jackie Curtis! You were strong, talented,
but volatile (and had reportedly bad hygiene).
Tragically, you died of a heroin overdose in
1985.
Which Andy Warhol drag queen are you?

- Everyone's Sitting In The Windows Of Bars Day! Every bar you pass, sitting in the window is someone else you know. Matthew, your friend who's cut himself off from you, he's in the window of Caffery's with four people you don't know. They're all laughing hysterically at a story he's telling them with big hands. Down the block, at the Hip Bar, there's your old boss in the window making out with a very young woman. It's horrifying.
Your parents got the table by the window at Jake's. Your Mom is staring through the window, watching the snow turn black. Your Dad is trying to get the waitress' attention. His glass is empty. Keep walking. Sarah is aglow in the window of Cafe. Sarah is your ex-girlfriend. Len is her new boyfriend and he's sitting across from her, talking through a big smile. Keep walking. In the window of Lord's Lounge is a clown in full makeup who once was hired to entertain your ninth birthday party. You were too old for a clown. The clown was upset by something that day. Just above his pint, he looks pretty upset about something today. But not as upset as Gilbert the Auto Mechanic who used to fix your Suzuki back when you were still commuting from your gals place. Gilbert has the booth by the window at Ralph's. Gilbert has in his possession an active cell phone, into which he is apparently shouting, and five empty hi-ball glasses, each of which he'll occasionally pick up to drain the final drops of melted ice at the bottom just before not catching his waitress' eye yet again. All these people sitting in the windows of bars, not one of them has spotted you. Unless they saw you and just didn't wanna say hi.
Happy Everyone's Sitting In The Windows Of Bars Day!

- Good .... | ... Bad i've been thinking about this for years...but looking at ishkur's guide has sparked me to say something. the electronic scene has become way too genre-specific. a lot of these "sub-genres" as i like to call them, really should just be grouped under their respective "parent" genres, and be left at that....
remember the days when there was just trance, house, breaks, jungle, downtempo, and ambient? (or some personal variation thereof). it seemed like everything was grouped according to style of rhythm (or lack of, in ambient's case), tempo, and sometimes tones (wherein, trance differs from house). but the scene has been full of retards that had to be all cliquey and make it like there's a whole new form of electronic music that they now belong to each time they heard something slightly different....
anonymous candy kid: "i like trashcore-trance-pop-step-house...everything else sux!"
seriously though, when a handful of producers started copying each other on a single element of the audio... and they created a sort of consistency....the listeners would dub a new sub-genre name for it.
it's gotten ridiculous in my opinion....
i'm sick of categorizing.
i'm sick of hearing others categorize by a single filter used.
i've decided (and this is official now)...
2 categories for all music:
Good.....|......Bad

- Tired I think I Not While weblog entries lamenting the lack of updates to a web site border on inflated ego (my audience misses me!) and frivolity (writing about the lack of writing), I’m writing one anyway.
Ive attempted to create this entry time and time again, however I seem to just sit and stare and think meh.... who reads this anyways. is this whole thing really worth it .. //slaps ... But it occured to me that there are people out there who read this site and i thank you for returning time and time again to see little or next to no changes. This site is now into its 4th year and with a new design coming out any time soon. I promise more and more....

- This is an excuse! While weblog entries lamenting the lack of updates to a web site border on inflated ego (my audience misses me!) and frivolity (writing about the lack of writing), I’m writing one anyway.
The reason for my absence should be pretty easy to guess.
Two weeks of watching movies. Two weeks of booze. Two weeks of sugary treats. Two weeks of family and friends. Two weeks of consistently sleeping in, and dozing off, later than I have since my college days. And, of course, two weeks of zero content on this site.
Today it is “back to work” after two very long, relaxing, thoroughly unproductive weeks away from it all. Most times I’m quick to squelch any hint of laziness in both my personal and professional walks of life, but 2003 was different — easily one of the busiest, most exciting years I’ve ever had. So this year, I decided the best plan was to have no plan, unplug myself from anything that reminded me of work, and instead consume until my belly was full, my brain half-connected, and my spirits high.
Booting up this morning, it would appear most other people I know took a literal break as well. And with the worker bees away, it would appear nothing of major importance or interest happened in the web dev / design news wires either. Again, a good thing.
But today marks a new day, and a new year, and truth be told, I’m not entirely sure I’m ready to accept it.

- Ikea i Hate you - No really i do I don’t know how many of you have actually been to an IKEA, but if you have, you’ll know exactly how it feels to be in that place on a Saturday. It’s horrible. There are usually at least 30,000 people all crammed in there—it’s loud, crowded, and frustrating—and from the moment you get in you just want to be out as quickly as you can.
And it’s not like their furniture is all that great, either. It’s all fake wood on top of particle board, but for some reason you just ignore that when you realize that in a short amount of time (and usually for a relatively good price), you can completely furnish your house or apartment.
But the place makes me so mad. By the time I leave I’m pissed off for reasons I don’t even understand, and I just want to scream at all the employees for their lack of customer service skills. I want to cry out in anger that the coffee table we picked out is in the “self-service” area, and it’s not sold out, but we get down there and it is in fact sold out. And I hate that I get told by a cashier that she’s closed because her light is off, so I find someone with their light on only to be told that she’s closed too because her “gate” is closed.
IKEA, I hate you. But I’ll be back in a week to pick up that coffee table. Damn you.

- Richie Hawtin - Closer Many people thought they'd seen the last of Plastikman. It has been five years since he unleashed the exquisitely sparse and engaging 'Consumed', and almost ten years exactly since the project began, with the debut 'Sheet One'. Originally envisaged as a trilogy, the series evolved organically, responding to the life events of its creator, Richie Hawtin - expanding beyond these constraints to explore new depths of self-expression.

- Up my excitement level please Starting this blog has highlighted something for me: I don’t do anything interesting on a day-to-day basis.
In the last year I’ve been to the Whitsunday Islands for a week, Adelaide for a week, moved to Brisbane and partied.
I’ve spent three days at a dance / camping event in December last year, and four more walking around in wonder land after that rave.
I’ve been skateboarding, designing, reading, running, partying and yo yoing. I’ve played rugby, tennis on the xbox and football.
But ask me to write about what happens here on an average day, and I’d be stumped.
What do I do? Who do I meet? Where does all my time go?
It’s a very dull mystery…

Greetings all, welcome back to The Mind, The BRAin, The Freak, THE KIDD! This is probably one of the more upsetting times in my life, a low point I guess you could call it, but I know I will get through it. How you ask? Well, to tell you the truth I have to get over it, right? It just depends how much you are willing to stay affected as to how long that “low” period takes. We need to pick ourselves up, it’s all character building. I was telling my good mate the other day that when you get dealt a card, in our example’s a “shit” card; you then have to accept it and take it all on the chest. You need to work out a plan to forget about it. In his case his x girlfriend, and in my case my last audition.
I will level with you all now; just yesterday I auditioned for NIDA, the Australian Drama School in Sydney if you haven’t already heard, I missed out. You know the worst thing about obviously not getting chosen is? Think of when you were a kid and you wanted something so bad, and you’re Mum or someone else said “no you can’t have it”, and as a kid that one thing, maybe a lolly or toy, is all you wanted right then, right there. Then there is some fucker pissing around with you and telling you that you can’t have it. Your dream that you would do anything humanly possible to have and someone, let’s say uhmm like a drama “expert” for example, tells you “thanks, but no thanks!”.
Its as if they don’t understand it’s your dream, its what you’ve dreamt about as a kid, to finish a performance and have a crowd cheer from the darkness, giving you their approval of your efforts on stage as the lights beam down into your eyes, and you cant see the crowd but you know they are out there because you can hear the roar. So until that day, you will be back again and again until you get in, we were told a story about one guy who auditioned for NIDA 8 times and was eventually accepted. How about that guy, my hat goes of to him, his dedication and will to be accepted got him over the line.
So when you are down and out or something just isn’t going your way, either deal with it and take it on the chest or work harder to fuck em’ up and get in next time round. Plenty more escapades and episodes in my life, this is just one of those stories I will be able to tell about how they didn’t want me at first, but they will, my time will come!
Thanks for all the support,
Yet again my close friends score a few points each on the “Good Bloke Odometer”
KIDDY

- God's gift or Satan's curse Most people consider drugs either God's gift or Satan's curse to humanity. There are very few that can see a middle ground. Yes, it's true; there have been plenty of lives ruined by drugs/alcohol. There also have been many more people who've been just fine after doing drugs (other than being poorer, of course). The key is to know your own limits and don't let people pressure you. I don't feel a damn bit sorry for the girl puking in the toilet that drank too much; she should have known fucking better. And peer pressure is not an excuse...if you're too weak-minded to stop when you know you've had enough, you shouldn't be drinking/doing drugs in the first place.
let me rephrase that .... i do feel sorry for ppl like that ....many very strong-minded, intelligent, hard-working people happen to fall into addiction. These people deserve treatment, not incarceration; sympathy and help, not callous desire to see punishment carried out.
not having sympathy for the people to which this unfortunate event has happened to and dismissing it as "should've known better" is more than insensitive and damaging, it's also barbarous and inhuman.
